This programme provides an alternative path into a career in law. It also should interest those considering careers outside law, in which law plays an important part.
Postgraduate Diploma in Law aims to provide an integrated programme in the practice and theory of law, supported by lectures, coursework, research projects. The academic foundation in law gained by a successful student should be sufficient to permit him or her to proceed onto the further professional training necessary to become a solicitor. A graduate will acquire a critical understanding of and approach to the diversity of legal issues in contemporary Irish society.
Admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Law ordinarily requires at least a second class honours primary degree (2.2 grade or higher) or a recognised equivalent of an academic qualification. Candidates with a pass degree who also hold a recognised higher diploma or Masters qualification with a 2.2 honours or higher may also be considered. Candidates who do not meet these criteria may make a case for exceptional entry, subject to the discretion of the Head of School.
