Programs in Applied Behavior Analysis Programs in Applied Behavior Analysis are offered through the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester, in collaboration with the Division of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics of the University of Rochester Medical Center. They all include a series of six required courses referred to as ProABA that have been approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board® (BACB®) as meeting the coursework requirements for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®) credential. Individuals who hold master's degrees in a BACB® designated “acceptable” area can take the ProABA course sequence as a "stand-alone" non-degree program. Individuals who don’t have a master’s degree in a BCBA® designated acceptable area can opt to complete the master’s in human deelopment program, with a specialization in developmental differences. The ProABA coursework, when combined with BACB approved practicum experience, qualifies the successful students to apply to the BACB® to sit for the BCBA® examination.
The BCBA® is now recognized in service delivery regulations in several states including New York’s Early Intervention Regulations for Applied Behavior Analysis Intervention Programs, and with license programs in eight states based primarily on the BACB® license model. Recognition of the credential in New York continues to grow, with pending regulations in developmental disabilities service including BCBAs® as providers and pending behavior analyst license legislation.
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is widely recognized and recommended by New York’s Department of Health as the treatment of choice for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The United States Surgeon General has similarly recognized ABA. In addition, ABA has a rich and lengthy history in research and application with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), mental health needs, rehabilitation, behavioral medicine, and general and special education, as well as business and industry. The ProABA six course sequence provides a thorough coursework experience in ABA. The MS in human development with ProABA sequence can assist students, developing professionals, and professionals alike in preparing for positions where these skills are needed.

Design a program to meet your interests: a general program in human development or a specialization in early childhood, family studies, developmental differences, gerontology, program evaluation, or research. You can also supplement the program and gain expertise as a program evaluator or analyst working with children with autism spectrum disorders (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). Students use this degree in a wide variety of community and government agencies, as well as a springboard to doctoral work.
