MS Human Resource Management

Course Description

Get Acquainted with our M.S. in Human Resource Management:
“Our people are our most valuable asset.”
It’s a message heard loud and clear from the highest ranks of today’s leading organizations. For executive leaders, attracting and retaining top talent is contingent upon having a highly qualified and effective human resource manager in place. After all, the role of the HR leader is evolving into that of a tightly integrated business partner — someone who can build a strong talent pool that yields significant competitive advantage.

Sacred Heart University’s Master of Science in Human Resource Management (M.S. in HRM) helps professionals develop the advanced quantitative skills and real-world knowledge it takes to contribute at the highest levels. Graduates are prepared for careers as HR managers and directors — high-growth positions that are projected to continue their upward climb.

Dig Deeper into the HRM Degree:
The 33-credit M.S. in HRM operates on a trimester schedule, allowing students to graduate in less than two years.
- The part-time program is suited for human resource professionals seeking advancement, or for business managers who wish to move laterally into the HR field.
- The full-time program is suited for students who have an undergraduate degree in business, applied psychology, HR management or leadership and are interested in an advanced HR degree.

Designed to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals, the program’s blended format combines online-centric study with in-person classes that meet every other Saturday.
Alongside peers in your cohort, you will network, collaborate and gain valuable expertise from distinguished SHU faculty members, as well as senior-level HR executives who serve as guest lecturers.

Understand the HRM Graduate Program Delivery:
Courses are taught in a blended format—part of the course is taught online with in-person classes every other Saturday at our Stamford, Conn. Graduate Center in Landmark Square from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Making use of online technology together with on-ground delivery will minimize travel requirements while bringing the students together.
Furthermore, the master's program is built around a cohort of students admitted together each fall. This is intended to create a student support system and a future peer network. Students who are accepted after a cohort has started may take elective classes while awaiting the start of their cohort.
A 12-credit graduate certificate in human resource management is also available through the Welch College of Business.

Go Forward with Human Resource Management:
The traditional HR role has been redefined. Graduates of advanced HR degree programs go on to become trusted advisors, diplomatic leaders and strategic trailblazers who excel in today’s complex business environment. The M.S. in HRM is:
- Contemporary. Informed by the needs of progressive global organizations, the program prepares you to deftly manage people and processes within rapidly changing business, regulatory and social landscapes.

- In demand. A rigorous focus on metrics and finance develops critical thinkers who can creatively tackle diverse challenges and thrive on the cutting edge of the HR field.

- Connected. You will be part of a multifaceted learning environment, gaining valuable expertise from industry experts and forging important relationships with peers in your cohort.

- Convenient. Blended-format coursework combines the convenience of online learning with the personal attention and interaction of in-class learning at SHU’s Stamford Graduate Center.

- Accredited. The program is offered through SHU’s John F. Welch College of Business—one of only a select few elite business schools worldwide that are accredited by AACSB International. In addition, SHRM has announced that Sacred Heart University’s master’s degree in human resource management program successfully aligns with the SHRM Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.

[[Career Outlook]]
Human Resource executives with graduate degrees will be best situated to meet this expanding market. Our M.S. in Human Resource Management includes and goes beyond the traditional areas of HR study; it offers students the opportunity to develop business skills in strategic planning, analysis and finance, thereby enabling them to fully seize the opportunity of this growing demand.

Students can benefit from our relationship with The Society for Human Resource and Management (SHRM). SHRM is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 250,000 individual members in more than 140 countries, the Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. With SHRM affiliation, our students and graduates will have the opportunity to attend seminars, conferences, join online community platforms and become part of a network of highly respected human resource professionals.

Furthermore, our students may apply their degree credits to satisfy SHRM requirements for certifications or recertification in Professional Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and Global Professional In Human Resources (GPHR).
