The Film and Television Masters program (FTMA) at Sacred Heart University is a one-year, conservatory devoted to cinematic storytelling. Our program is designed to foster the next generation of storytellers through dynamic workshops and independent projects. FTMA’s home is in the heart of Connecticut’s “Creative Corridor” with close ties to neighboring New York City. Focusing on story and hands-on production, students learn the craft and techniques that will empower them to stand out in today's new media market. Our one-year program is especially unique in that our students complete their own professional portfolio while going beyond the classroom into professional environments. Through partnerships with media companies and guidance from industry professionals our students tailor their concentration to meet their career needs.
[[Student Experience]] Our goal is to inspire and empower students to find their independent, artistic and intellectual visions by creating their own content. Students immerse themselves in the form and techniques of film, television, and transmedia storytelling. FTMA offers small class sizes centered on in-class lectures, workshops and hands-on productions. Every student works closely with a mentor or industry professional, who also serves as that student’s artistic and academic advisor for the entire year-long program. Students tailor their professional skills based on their individualized goals while our faculty guides them toward completing meaningful projects and developing professional partnerships. FTMA students complete the one-year program with real work experience and a finished professional reel ready for the job market.
[[Facilities]] The FTMA facilities include an advanced HD television studio with a large green screen ready for any virtual set. Our state-of-the-art post-production suite is equipped with individual edit bays, running the most up-to-date programs, including Apple’s Final Cut Studio and Avid Symphony software. Our large inventory of digital production equipment ensures that as soon as students begin the program they have consistent access to the latest tools and software for their projects.
[[Equipment]] At FTMA students will shoot their films with the latest in DSLR HD camera technology. With the Canon 5D Mark II and the Red Rock Cinema Bundle shoulder mount and follow focus, students will be using the same camera systems used in some of Hollywood’s biggest productions such as Captain America, Iron Man 2, Drive, House, and Hawaii Five-O. With digital editing being the industry standard, students will learn the craft of editing on professional quality systems using both Final Cut Pro Studio and the Avid Symphony software. With our Apple editing stations equipped with After Effects, Pro Tools, Color and other postproduction software, students will have access to all the resources available. Television production students will benefit from use of advanced technology tri-caster production systems and full HD studio camera with 3-D capability. Our television/streaming equipment is the industry standard for in-studio and field, mobile shooting.
We do not require any previous media production experience. We encourage all motivated learners from any undergraduate major or career to apply.
