With a challenging curriculum, the Master’s Programme in Banking and Finance (MBF) is one of the leading international finance programmes. In the fields of Financial Markets, Financial Institutions, Corporate Finance and Quantitative Methods, the programme offers high-quality education in both theory and application. It is designed to train our students in the critical reflection of various concepts and approaches prevailing in financial theory and practice. The high quality in teaching and education was confirmed by the Financial Times Ranking 2016 (8th place among more than 200 business schools ranked worldwide).
Curriculum: contents and structure
The MBF offers a clear and very flexible structure. The three exacting compulsory courses Financial Markets, Financial Institutions and Quantitative Methods, to be taken in the first semester, emphasize the holistic concept of the programme. They provide a quantitative as well as a qualitative approach to the large and multifaceted field of finance and combine methods, markets, instruments and institutions. The compulsory courses build the basis for a wide range of core electives in the following two semesters.
With the core electives, students may design their individual curriculum according to their preferences and choose to focus on finance, quantitative risk management, financial services and insurance.
A specialty of the MBF programme is the research seminar that is offered in banking, insurance, finance, portfolio management, corporate finance, alternative investments, pension finance or quantitative methods. The MBF programme is an official Program Partner of the CFA Institute.
In the research seminar, students are required to write an article with a research focus and have to present their results. In combination with the writing of a full Master’s thesis, the MBF therefore ensures a thorough preparation for a Ph.D. programme.
The MBF provides an extensive exchange with practitioners: our industry partners offer guest lectures and facilitate internships as well as a career start. Thanks to their financial support, the MBF invites guest professors from renowned universities on a regular basis.
