The Cranfield Executive MBA (Defence) course is designed for military officers, civil service personnel and defence industry executives looking to contribute more effectively towards future military initiatives.
Created specifically for the defence community, the MBA (Defence) programme is not just about improving your skills and techniques in general management. We build confidence, emotional intelligence, decision-making and team-working qualities that make for inspirational leaders.
The course is offered in partnership with Cranfield Defence and Security at the Defence Academy College of Management and Technology (formerly the Defence College of Management and Technology), Shrivenham and the School of Management at Cranfield.
During the first part of the programme, you will be given the chance to take the School of Management’s Executive MBA core modules, studying alongside students drawn from all sectors.
In the second part of the programme you will take four compulsory defence modules, two compulsory Executive MBA modules and then choose one general MBA elective theme from a rotating list of subject areas. You will also be required to take appropriate elements of the School of Management’s Personal and Professional Development module, which serves as the backbone of the MBA programme. In addition, you will complete a defence management independent research project.
All teaching takes place at the Cranfield campus in Bedfordshire. The programme is offered as a weekend format.
The Independent Research Project provides an opportunity for you to carry out an in-depth specialised study of a defence management topic of personal and/or professional interest. With support from your project supervisor at Shrivenham, you will integrate your understanding of theoretical principles with the practical aspects of a defence management issue.
You will study thirteen core modules in part one and four compulsory defence themed modules in part two. During part two you will also take two compulsory themes and select one general MBA elective theme from a rotating list of subject areas.
