Course Description

No company today can ignore the impact of globalisation. However, many firms are struggling to come to terms with the implications of this new reality.

Previously satisfactory business tools and techniques are now outdated and inappropriate. The fast pace of change and global shift has led to new market and product opportunities requiring novel approaches to strategy, organisation, operations and finance.

The International Business MSc can offer you an in-depth understanding of the changing organisational environment. This specialist course has been designed for those who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding of business and management in an international context.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

Students on this International Business MSc can expect to study the following subject areas:

Semester 1
All students study a suite of core topics fundamental to understanding organisations in the global context. The mandatory subjects for the first semester are:
-Global Supply Chain and Logistics
-International Marketing
-Management Accounting for Business
-Global Business in Emerging Regions
-Research Methods

Semester 2
Core subjects are:
-International Leadership Management
-International Business and Global Strategy
-Managing International Trade

One of the two following options:
-Business Process Integration
-International Human Resource Management

Semester 3
In Semester 3 all students undertake the Dissertation or Company Internship modules

HOW WILL THIS COURSE ENHANCE MY CAREER PROSPECTS?

The International Business MSc course is designed to build on the theory and knowledge taught during a student’s undergraduate studies along with their experiences. This continued development enables them to become specialists in international business, equipped to work in a range of different organisations. Graduates go on to pursue a wide range of business and management careers in multinational organisations, management consultancies, government organisations and management education and training.

WORK PLACEMENTS

As part of the International Business MSc degree, students have the option of enrolling on the internship programme. This module normally lasts between 8–12 weeks and provides students with an opportunity to undertake a workplace project on behalf of an organisation.

Coventry University Business School works closely with companies across the UK and Europe to offer a wide variety of internships.

Students must successfully meet the following assessment criteria:
-Academic: successful completion of all Semester 1 modules including research methods at the first attempt;
-CV short-listing: submit a CV which will be used for competitive short-listing by the internship panel;
-Presentation: prepare and successfully deliver a formal presentation;
-Interview: interview with the university internship panel.

After completing the Internship, you are required to write an extensive report based on the managerial and educational experience derived from the internship itself and present your findings to both the employers and academic staff.

GLOBAL LEADERS PROGRAMME

To prepare students for the challenges of the global employment market and to strengthen and develop their broader personal and professional skills Coventry University has developed a unique Global Leaders Programme.

The objectives of the programme, in which postgraduate and eligible undergraduate students can participate, is to provide practical career workshops and enable participants to experience different business cultures.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold a good honours degree 2.2 or above in a relevant academic discipline. Applications from candidates with relevant experience will be considered on an individual basis. International applicants should also hold a minimum of 6.5 score in the IELTS test for English Language.
