North and Mid Wales Centre of Teacher Education
Aberystwyth and Bangor Universities together provide Initial Teacher Education and Training in an exciting partnership forming the North and Mid Wales Centre of Teacher Education, one of three national Centres in Wales training primary and secondary teachers. The North and Mid Wales Centre is a collaboration between two traditional institutions, both with excellent and long-standing records in providing training for prospective teachers but also very much in touch with current trends in education. The Centre works with and develops partnerships with primary and secondary schools across the regions, and provides the best possible start for trainee teachers. It offers first rate higher education in two of Britain’s most beautiful locations. The atmosphere at the Centre, whether based in Aberystwyth or Bangor, is welcoming and friendly and trainee teachers will receive a high standard of training and support.

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and teaching in the UK and abroad

QTS gained at institutions in Wales is fully equivalent to that for England. All trainees gaining QTS in Aberystwyth will be qualified to teach all over the UK as well as in many other countries. Students gaining QTS in Wales are able to undertake their induction year in England and other parts of the UK.

Aberystwyth Masters Scholarship 2015 - 20+ Awards

Scholarships, each worth £1,000 towards tuition fees will be available for UK/EU students commencing full-time Taught Masters courses in September 2015. Part-time students would be eligible for £500 for Year 1 and Year 2 of their Masters. The scholarships will be awarded for academic excellence (minimum of a UK upper second class honours degree or the equivalent award. In order to be considered for one of these awards, an application for a place on a taught Masters degree at Aberystwyth University must be received by 31st July 2015.

Eligibility

Students from the UK/EU that will be studying an on campus taught Masters and that have good results from their undergraduate degree will be entitled to an Aberystwyth Masters Scholarship worth around £1000.

Application Procedure

Separate application forms are not required. Therefore it is essential that the application for a place be received by the (AU) Postgraduate Admissions Office by 31st July 2015 at the very latest.

International Postgraduate Excellence Scholarship - 20+ Awards

The scholarships will be awarded for academic excellence (minimum of a UK upper second class honours degree or the equivalent award, either already achieved or predicted by the candidate’s awarding university).In order to be considered for one of these awards, an application for a place on a taught Masters degree at Aberystwyth University must be received by 31st August 2015.Up to 72 scholarships worth £2500 towards tuition fees for full-time non-EU students on taught Masters courses are available for students who commence their studies in September 2015 on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Up to 72 scholarships, each worth £2,500 towards tuition fees will be available for non-UK/EU students commencing full-time Taught Masters courses in September 2015.

Application Procedure

Separate application forms are not required. Therefore it is essential that the application for a place be received by the AU Postgraduate Admissions Office by 31st August 2015 at the very latest. Selection will be on the basis of academic excellence and the applicant’s suitability for their proposed course. A minimum (UK) 2.i Honours (or equivalent) is required for an award. Entry Requirements

In order to be considered for an interview for one of our Secondary PGCE courses you will need to have some formal qualifications. Ideally, you should also have experience of working, in any kind of paid or voluntary capacity, with children or young people but it is not an entry requirement. Observation at a school is also recommended but not essential.We welcome applications from candidates from groups that are often under-represented in the teaching profession, for example male applicants, Welsh-speaking community, ethnic minorities or people with disabilities.
