Drug Discovery & Safety


Course Description

Drug Discovery & Safety at VU University Amsterdam (the Netherlands) examines the interaction between a substance and the human body from a range of perspectives: chemistry, toxicology, computer science, biology and medicine. A multidisciplinary approach like this is essential to the development of new drugs.

There are six specializations to choose from:

1. Molecular Pharmacology (Drug Discovery & Target Finding)
2. Molecular Toxicology (Drug Disposition & Safety Assessment)
3. Drug Design & Synthesis
4. Computational Medicinal Chemistry & Toxicology
5. Biomolecular Drug Analysis

The research placement is a compulsory component of the Master's programme.

Entry Requirements

You can gain direct admission to the Master's in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Chemistry.
