Course Description

A multidisciplinary, critical, and comparative perspective on criminology

There is a growing demand for qualified researchers, legal practitioners and policy makers who can address these and comparable issues. Are you a multidisciplinary expert or criminologist who wants to make a significant contribution to the field? Are you someone who wants to work in the field of law and social reform – or any sector dealing with growing forms of local and global crime control? Do you want to be part of a Master's programme with students from different continents? Then the MA in Global Criminology at Utrecht University is the right choice for you!

As a graduate with an MA in Global Criminology, you could conduct further research at a university, or at research institutes (NGOs, commercial research offices, etc.)

(Scholarship)

Utrecht Excellence Scholarships - 20+ Awards

SELECTION CRITERIAEligible candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:- Academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study;
- The academic quality and results of preceding qualifications, as evidenced by proof of belonging to the top 10% of the class, grades, test scores, a writing sample, letters of recommendation;
- The quality and relevance of the motivation letter for the Master’s programme (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation);
- The quality of the application for the Master’s programme itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).

Value of Scholarship(s)

Tuition fee or Tuition fee plus living expenses (€11,000)

Eligibility

-Belong to the top 10% of your graduating class
- Hold a non-EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
- Have completed your secondary school and/or Bachelor degree outside the Netherlands
- Have applied for one of the participating international master’s programme with a start date of September.

Entry Requirements

Eligible are students who have a bachelor's degree in Criminology, Law or Social Sciences. Candidates have to show sufficient criminological knowledge (through optional courses, minors in criminology or work experience). Exceptions: candidates with other degrees may be admitted, if they can show sufficient criminological knowledge –through optional courses, minors in criminology or work experience.
