The Research Master's programme in History offers research-based training in political and cultural history, the history of international relations, and social and economic history.
The History Research Master's programme offers you research-based training in history as an academic discipline. We teach you how to perform research, and we challenge you to develop your own ideas on topics of your choice. Our History Department offers a broad range of historical expertise in four scholarly fields: political history; cultural history; history of international relations and conflict studies; and economic and social history.
The Utrecht Programme is judged best in the field in the Netherlands by the Master's Selection Guide 2015.

You have a clear interest in historical research, shown by having taken at least 45 EC in History at the Bachelor’s level (or equivalent); You are able to design, perform, and report on research in primary or secondary sources, as evidenced by a relevant research paper or Bachelor’s thesis; You have a strong motivation to do independent historical research, which is discussed convincingly in your motivation letter; You are able to express yourself in proficient English, both orally and in written text, as demonstrated by an interview and an English writing sample.
