Our postgraduate programmes are designed for a wide range of leading educators in medicine, dentistry, nursing, midwifery, radiography, physiotherapy, pharmacy or other health professions. Our part-time programmes offer a flexible ladder of progression. You can study at your own pace, progressing from Certificate to Diploma to Masters of Science (MSc). You can study part-time via blended learning to fit around your busy work commitment. Modules may also be offered as stand-alone CPD options, depending on availability. Our full-time MSc programme combines the content from the part-time Certificate, Diploma and MSc into a one-year course, and is also suitable for intercalating medical students. The programme reflects the changing landscape of inter-professional education. You will work with other health professionals in an inter-disciplinary environment to gain expert understanding of curriculum design, delivery, assessment and feedback, leadership and research approaches in health professions education. It will enhance your professional credibility and confidence in teaching and practice. You will also gain formal recognition and qualifications for your teaching.
The programme consists of three levels - Certificate, Diploma, and Masters: You must complete each level in order to apply to the next. If you have completed a Certificate at another institution within the last three years you may be able to enter the programme at Diploma level.
Postgraduate Certificate in Health Professions Education (one year part-time):
You will develop practical capabilities in critical, reflective understanding of learning and teaching in clinical practice.
Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education (one year part-time):
You will extend and deepen your understanding and application of educational theory, scholarship and leadership, and develop a solid foundation in health professions education and educational research.
MSc in Health Professions Education (one year part-time):
You will undertake educational research project supervised by programme staff with research expertise, and produce a professional dissertation as the output of your research project.
MSc in Health Professions Education (one year full-time):
If you wish to study the content of the Certificate, Diploma and MSc in one year you may wish to apply for our full-time MSc.
The programme is delivered by academics, clinicians and practitioners with a broad range of teaching expertise, all of whom have qualifications or significant background in health professions education and higher education.
Teaching and Assessment
The programme is delivered via blended learning through a tailor-made virtual learning environment. For the Certificate and Diploma level qualification, you will: *Engage in weekly online activities and self-directed learning. *Engage in online communications with peers and the programme team. *Undertake an observed teaching session (certificate level). *Attend optional study days (for blended learning students). *Receive individual support from your programme tutor.
For each module you will be assessed through a range of online activities and tasks alongside written assignments such as essays. For the MSc level qualification, you will: *Develop a research question and undertake an original research project. *Write up your research project. *Present the findings of your research project. *You will receive the support of a dedicated academic supervisor and attend scheduled dissertation advisory panel meetings (meetings can be conducted electronically for distance learning students).
You will be assessed through the dissertation you produce and a presentation of your research.
