Master of Forensic Science / Doctor of Philosophy


Course Description

This course enables students to simultaneously undertake a PhD (in their chosen discipline) and a Master of Forensic Science. Students will graduate with both a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Forensic Science.

The lectures for the Master of Forensic Science component of the course will primarily be held in the evenings to accommodate students conducting research or in full time employment. Please contact us for further information.

The Master of Forensic Science component consists of the following units:

- Ethics and Research Methods in Forensic Science (3 points)
- Instrumentation (Chemical Instrumentation) (3 points)
- Forensic Anthropology I (3 points)
- DNA (3 points)
- Research Issues in Forensic Science I (3 points)
- Research Issues in Forensic Science 2 (3 points)

Plus units to the value of 15 points from the following list:

- Forensic Pathology (3 points)
- Forensic Odontology and Introductory Osteology (3 points)
- Soils and Taphonomy (3 points)
- Electron, Light and Laser Microscopies (3 points)
- Forensic Image Processing (3 points)
- Forensic Entomology (3 points)

Plus a Special Topic (topics change each year) and a Case Study (independent research project and courtroom presentation).

Entry Requirements

1) An end-on honours degree of at least upper second class or equivalent.2) A National Criminal Record History Check (no more than 12 months old).3) Proof of current tetanus vaccination.
