Master of Public Health (Research)

Course Description

The Master of Public Health (Research) is a specialist degree designed for you to undertake research on a topic relevant to public health and to gain research skills and experience.

Public health is the prevention of disease and injury in the whole community and the promotion of cost-effective and equitable health care services. Research topics must be in areas connected with a public health problem or issue. This course gives you a strong grounding in the disciplines of epidemiology and biostatistics within the multidisciplinary context of public health. You will gain experience in all aspects of the research process, from the conception and design of a research project, the collection and analysis of data and effective communication of results – as well as the application of results to practice.

The Master of Public Health (Research) is a thesis-only research degree. Students without equivalent proficiency are also required to complete units in epidemiology or biostatistics, which the School can provide.

Entry Requirements

Admission to the Master of Public Health (Research) requires the following: - Adequate public health knowledge through previous coursework training in public health or professional experience; and - Bachelor's degree with at least 2A honours (or equivalent)English Language Competence: All UWA research programs have a minimum level of English language competency.
