Do you want to build your own degree programme? With no compulsory modules, this course enables you to build your own degree, developing a breadth of interests or finding your own niche specialism. Our Director of Advanced Legal Studies will help you to construct an appropriate programme of study tailored to your individual needs and interests, whether from modules offered through the Law School or approved options from other departments.
This programme enables you to develop your own legal specialism. For example, in: justice and security; gender and corporate governance; social and economic change and nongovernment organisations (NGOs); and human rights and global capital. You will be assessed through different methods, which may include essays, examinations, portfolios, presentations and a dissertation.
Some of our recent postgraduates have gone on to work for NGOs, governmental and regulatory bodies, and legal services; others have used the LLM to progress to a PhD.
Attending the University of Warwick for my LLM in Advanced Legal Studies was obvious to me. After successfully completing my undergraduate studies in France as well as an ERASMUS year at the University of Warwick, I had a strong desire to come back to a leading university in the United Kingdom. I was indeed looking for an intellectually challenging and international environment, and the University of Warwick was therefore the best choice.
I chose this LLM in Advanced Legal Studies at Warwick because of a specific characteristic, it allows for students to choose their modules from a wide variety of modules offered by the three other LLM programmes at the Law School. I was able to make my own ‘menu’ of the modules I found interesting without any restrictions, therefore shaping my LLM to my own interests as well as my own career.
Throughout this year, I had the opportunity to develop useful skills for my career – thanks to the practical side of the modules – and to discover new areas of international law taught by highly experienced professors. Moreover, this year has also been important for my personal development as I met students from all around the world, discovering new cultures and new legal systems, and making friends – or hopefully future colleagues! Doing my postgraduate studies at Warwick was definitely one of the best choices I have ever made during my studies.
