Health psychology is developing rapidly in the UK and Europe in response to the recognised need for a psychological approach to healthcare and healthcare delivery.
This programme, the only postgraduate course in health psychology in Northern Ireland and the only distance learning MSc in health psychology in the UK, provides the training, knowledge and skills you will need to develop your professional and/or research skills in the various areas of psychology applied to health.
Eight of our programme team are chartered health psychologists and several are actively involved in the development of health psychology nationally and internationally.
Health psychologists work within the National Health Service (NHS) providing psychological assessment, behaviour change interventions, and the provision and management of psychological care and rehabilitation of people with chronic illnesses. In addition to the NHS, employment opportunities occur in industry and academic settings. The School of Psychology has particular strengths in teaching and research in the area of health psychology.
The programme will be of interest to graduates in psychology who wish to become professional psychologists, particularly in health psychology, or who wish to develop careers in research or application of psychology across the range of health care settings. It will also be of interest to psychology graduates who wish to pursue a career in research and academia.
