PG Dip Bar Professional Training course (BPTC) Part-time

Course Description

Key fact

Our part-time BPTC provides a flexible route for aspiring barristers looking to gain the skills, knowledge and opportunities to secure a pupillage and succeed at the Bar.

Introduction

The UWE Bristol Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) provides the foundation of your career as a barrister. The part-time course provides exactly the same level of training as the full-time BPTC, but runs over two years, with most teaching taking place at the weekend.

Rigorous and demanding, yet stimulating and rewarding, the course will equip you with the advocacy, research, conference and mediation skills you need to excel at the Bar and beyond. At the same time, you will have access to excellent opportunities to enhance your CV and help secure a pupillage.

Outstanding quality of teaching

The quality of teaching on the BPTC is nationally and internationally renowned, with tuition provided by a dedicated team of barristers, solicitors and judges and an unrivalled range of facilities to enhance your study experience. Our high student satisfaction rates are testament to the high quality of tuition on the course; and 85% of students would recommend our BPTC to others (BSB student satisfaction survey).

Employability-enhancing opportunities:

To increase your chances of obtaining pupillage and improve your employability generally, you will also have the chance to;
•participate in our award-winning pro bono Law Court Clinic
•hone your mooting skills in our Bristol Chambers sponsored mooting competitions
•appear in the Bristol Crown Court or in the Civil Justice Centre before real life judges in our Chambers sponsored family, criminal and civil commercial advocacy competitions.

Alternative dispute resolution training

All BPTCs enable you to study resolution of disputes out of court (REDOC) as a taught and assessed subject. On our BPTC, you will have the opportunity to go an important step further by becoming an accredited mediator at no additional cost (run by our partners ADRg, a leading provider of alternative dispute resolution services and training, this course would usually cost you over £3,000.)

(Student Profile)

James

‘During the course I undertook 2 mini pupillages and participated in the civil advocacy competition and reached the final, making submissions to a High Court judge, which was an amazing experience. These experiences benefitted me hugely, as they gave me a real-life flavour of life at the Bar.’
