If you have studied a fashion or design degree and want to progress to an MA in Fashion Footwear, or branch out into footwear design, this is the course you need.
The Postgraduate Certificate Footwear Production and Manufacture is a new course designed to enable design and fashion graduates to gain the appropriate technical and specialist skills to be able to convert to this specialism. Students will learn the fundamental design and construction skills that are necessary to study footwear at MA level. Using both traditional and contemporary techniques, students will engage in the design and technical development of footwear. The use of CAD and rapid prototyping will be covered, as will production and manufacturing techniques and research methods. Students will also develop the personal, analytical and critical skills that will allow them to progress to the MA Fashion Footwear course. This course is also suitable for individuals who wish to change career and learn the basics of footwear design, production and manufacture.
The Postgraduate Certificate Footwear Production and Manufacture is based at Golden Lane, on the edge of the City of London and very near to the Barbican Arts Centre, with its exhibition gallery, concert hall, theatre, cinema and cafes and restaurants. Clerkenwell, Hoxton and Smithfield, with their interesting mixes of shops, creative businesses, galleries, cafes, bars and clubs, are within walking distance, as is the Museum of London. The Barbican Estate is an excellent example of post-war urban architecture, and the nearby Whitecross Street has a very good lunchtime food market during the week, where you can select hot or cold food from a wide range of different cuisines.
