Master of Economics

Course Description

In 2014 the University of Sydney’s School of Economics launched the Master of Economics Analysis, which is rapidly becoming a benchmark for high-end postgraduate economics training in Australia.

This year we are launching our new Master of Economics, which combines an enhanced focus on industry-relevant training with the academic rigour that has long been a hallmark of our postgraduate economics coursework degrees. The new course has a distinct focus on applied economics and you will have the opportunity to tailor your study to your own interests and experience by selecting elective units from a wide range of options. We aspire for the Master of Economics to be recognised as the preferred professional development qualification in the Australian job market and the economics postgraduate degree of choice for employers seeking to hire at the postgraduate level.

The University of Sydney Master of Economics comes from a long tradition of excellence that started in 1920. A Nobel Laureate, John Harsanyi, numerous business leaders and many Australian politicians received their undergraduate and/or postgraduate Economics training from us. While our enviable reputation owes a great deal to our distinguished alumni community, it is complemented by the strength and dynamism of our research activities. We are ranked as world class in all fields of economics and are top-rated in the Asia-Pacific in a number of applied fields such as Macroeconomics and Behavioural Economics.
