Gain an understanding of the ways policy is made within Europe. Associated with the Sussex European Institute, our MA focuses on the political context to policy-making in Europe covering national and EU-level processes as well as the interaction between them.
Our course makes use of both cutting-edge research and the insights of those involved in making and influencing policy.
You’ll gain a solid grounding in policy and academic debates as well as a methodological tool-kit, allowing you to specialise in areas such as: -Economic and political integration in the EU -Foreign policy -Energy and environmental policy -Political parties
How will I study?
You’ll study core modules and options across the spring and autumn terms. In the summer, you work on your dissertation. Modules are assessed by a combination of essays, term papers and unseen examinations. You also write a 15,000-word dissertation.
Politics at Sussex is based in the state-of-the-art Freeman Centre, which offers outstanding study and computing facilities for MA, MPhil and PhD students, who are fully integrated with academic staff.
To complement the international orientation of our degrees, the excellent Sussex Centre for Language Studies provides taught modules and self-study facilities for a wide range of languages including Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian and Spanish.
The University Library is a European Documentation Centre, and Library holdings in the fields of European institutions, economics and politics are particularly strong.

The HESPAL Scholarship is a joint award offered by the British Council and the University of Sussex which is centred on building capacity in Palestinian universities by providing young Palestinian academics with an English Masters course in a subject that will benefit their home institution and hence the Palestinian Territories.The University of Sussex and the British Council are committed to providing two scholarships per year.
