MSc in Mathematics


Course Description

Mathematics at Sussex has a strong tradition and plays an important role in the current development of mathematics in areas as diverse as analysis and differential equations, mathematical biology, numerical analysis, stochastic analysis and probability.

This broad-based MSc concentrates on the core areas of pure, applied and numerical mathematics and provides you with a general knowledge of advanced mathematics. It offers you the opportunity to choose the mathematical orientation that best fits your tastes and aspirations.

This course is intended as training for users of mathematics in commerce and industry, as enhancement to mathematical educators (both future and current ones looking to strengthen their curriculum), or as a preparation to pursue a higher research course. A wide choice of topics is available for the dissertation, taken under the supervision of research-active faculty members.

In order to be considered for a Chancellor's International Scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:Have applied for and accepted a place to start a Postgraduate taught degree at the University of Sussex (e.g., MA, MSc, LLM, MRes, Postgraduate Diploma, and Graduate Diploma) excluding certain degrees listed on our website. Be assessed as liable to pay fees at the "overseas" (namely the non-EU) rate.Have sufficient funds to meet your tuition fees and living expenses, after taking account of the possible award of a Chancellor's International Scholarship.Students who hold other University of Sussex scholarships will not be eligible for the Chancellors International Scholarship.

Application Procedure

The closing date and time for applications to be received is 1st May 23:59:00 BST prior to the academic year commencing in September. Applications received after 1st May cannot be considered.

Chancellor's Masters Scholarship (2015) - 20+ Awards

The University is delighted to offer 100 Masters scholarships to attract the most talented students to study at Sussex. Our awards include enhanced scholarships of £10,000 which are available for 2015 only and standard scholarships of £3,000. The scholarships are available on a competitive basis to UK/EU and non-EU students and confirm Sussex's position as one of the UK's leading universities for postgraduate study. The application deadline is 1st August 2015.Scholarships will be allocated in a number of separate rounds during 2015 (February, April, June and August).The first allocation of awards will take place in February. Scholarships will be awarded in a number of separate rounds, in February, April, June and August, with successful applicants notified after each round. If you are not immediately successful in being awarded a scholarship, but meet the eligibility criteria, you will automatically be re-considered in the following allocation round alongside any new applications. • You must graduate with a first-class honours degree from any UK higher education institution
• You must have paid annual tuition fees of £9,000 or more in each of the last three years of undergraduate study
• You must have applied for your chosen full-time Masters course by 1 August
• You must accept and meet any conditions of your offer.

Application Procedure

To be considered for a scholarship you should apply online for an eligible full-time Masters course between 1 October 2014 and 1 August 2015 via the University's postgraduate application system.

To be considered for the scholarship (standard or enhanced), please complete the Chancellor's Masters Scholarship application form by 1 August. You are only required to submit one application, your eligibility for the standard or enhanced award will be assessed if you are made an offer of a scholarship.

Sussex Graduate Scholarship (2015) - 20+ Awards

The University is delighted to announce the launch of an unlimited number of enhanced scholarships of £10,000 for Sussex students admitted to full-time Master's degree courses in September 2015. The scholarships are jointly funded by the government and the University, and confirm Sussex's position as one of the UK's leading universities for postgraduate study.The enhanced scholarships are available for admission in 2015 only and are based on progression from an undergraduate course where students have paid the higher tuition fee, in operation since 2012/13. Additionally, the University has provided funding to make enhanced scholarships available to international students at Sussex.In line with our sector leading Masters scholarship offer in 2014 we will continue to offer an unlimited number of standard scholarships at £3,000 and £2,000 for Sussex students admitted to full-time Master's degree courses in September 2015.[[Type of award]]
