MSc Tourism and Hospitality

Course Description

180,000 businesses operate within the UK’s hospitality industry, making it one of the UK’s largest sectors for recruitment. Employment opportunities are excellent, and with a postgraduate degree in Tourism and Hospitality you will have numerous opportunities to develop your career.

The University of Sunderland has an excellent reputation in Tourism and Hospitality. Our research in Sports and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism is rated ‘world leading’ in the latest Research Excellence Framework, and our Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism subject area is ranked number four in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2015. In addition, we are a member of the Institute of Hospitality's Education Membership Scheme, the professional body for aspiring managers studying in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry.

Tourism and Hospitality MSc brings together theoretical and practical learning. You will develop a critical understanding of the global complexity and range of impacts of the tourism, hospitality and and events industries. You will examine hospitality as a global industry, looking at the industry’s impacts in terms of triple bottom line indicators (economic, socio-cultural and environmental), particularly in terms of ownership and employment practices.

Your final project will be an independent piece of work, in which you will critically apply the knowledge and skills you have acquired throughout the course to a tourism or hospitality related research project of your choosing.
