Entry Requirements

A good 2.1 Honours undergraduate degree. The School welcomes applications from students from all disciplines relevant to museum work, such as history, archaeology, anthropology, languages, media and communications, and physical and natural sciences.

Students will preferably have some museum work experience (through employment or volunteering).

The part-time course is also open to students without a degree but with considerable professional experience in a museum or gallery.

English language proficiency.

Scholarships

The School of Art History at the University of St Andrews invites applications for the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust Museum and Gallery Studies (MGS) Award. The award is worth £5000, and is open to those aiming for a future career as a Curator of Art. This year the award will be granted to a student accepted within one of the following MGS postgraduate options: a) Full Time MLitt (2019-20); b) MPhil (2019-2021); c) PhD (2019-23) in Museum and Gallery Studies.
The funds will in the first instance be used to cover tuition fees. Any outstanding funds may be used to cover research expenses including travel, materials, rights and reproductions, etc.

Eligibility

Applicants must have been offered a place on the MGS postgraduate programme and have a first degree in Art History or related subject OR have other supporting evidence of a commitment to a career as a curator of art.
