MSc Sociology and Social Policy

Course Description


This course enables students to combine advanced level training in sociology and social policy; there are 3 available pathways: quantitative, qualitative, and substantive; the course teaches students how to formulate research questions in specific research contexts, select and use appropriate methods of data collection and analysis, manipulate and critically evaluate key concepts and issues, and present results in a systematic way.


Modules are selected from: key debates in social policy; philosophy of Social Science Research, methodology and research design; project modules 1 and 2 (from a range of options); the mixed economy of welfare delivery; qualitative research methods; understanding modernity; understanding social change; dissertation.
