This course offers students the opportunity to develop an understanding of how operational research (OR) and statistical and optimisation techniques are applied to practical problems, in addition to learning key workplace skills; a 3-month industrial placement follows successful completion of the instructional component.
Corporate finance; deterministic operational research methods; presenting reports; spreadsheet and database modelling; statistical methods; stochastic operational research methods; visual basic for applications; dissertation; plus optional modules from: constraint satisfaction; consultancy skills; credit scoring and data mining; economics; financial portfolio theory; financial risk management; forecasting; game theory; project management; trends in information technology.
Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in a subject involving a significant amount of quantitative work (e.g. computer science, economics, engineering, mathematics, physics, statistics) or relevant work experience.
