MA/MSc Maritime Archaeology


Course Description

Summary

This course aims to provide graduates in archaeology or closely related disciplines with a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of applying archaeology in seas, rivers, lakes and intertidal environments. Intensive practical instruction in specific research skills and field techniques are an integral part of many of the programme modules.

Modules

Semester 1 Compulsory: Maritime aspects of culture; optional: boats of the world: traditions and technologies of ancient watercraft; ship science in archaeology; marine geoarchaeology.
Semester 2 Compulsory: Archaeology under water; dissertation; optional: ancient mediterranean seafaring; heritage management and conservation of artefacts in the coastal zone; intellectual methodologies.

Entry Requirements

First- or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related subject. English Language IELTS 6.5, or equivalent in other approved English language test.
