MA/Diploma/Certificate Librarianship (Professional Enhancement Programme)

Course Description


As a library or information professional, these courses will help you re-evaluate your practice in the context of the latest research. You’ll apply research-based approaches to problems and develop new skills relevant to your professional development plans.

You’ll acquire valuable transferable skills such as presentation and report writing. We can also help you develop leadership and management capabilities.


Graduates work for all kinds of organisations, in the public and private sectors. Some of them are independent consultants. In the information age, good information management is at the top of everyone’s agenda.

Core modules

Research Methods and Dissertation Preparation; Dissertation (MA only); Management for Library and Information Services.

Optional modules

Choose from our wide range including: Information and Knowledge Management; E-Business and E-Commerce; Designing Usable Websites; Public and Youth Library Services; Information Literacy Research; Content Management Systems. You can also choose up to three independent study modules.

Entry Requirements

At least two years’ relevant work experience and a first degree in librarianship or information studies. If you have less than two years’ work experience please contact us to discuss your work experience. If your first degree is in another subject, you’ll also need a relevant professional qualification. If you don’t have a first degree, but you have other qualifications and relevant work experience, you may be able to take the PGDip or PGCert. Please contact us for more information. English language requirements: overall IELTS grade of 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each component.
