The Professional Leadership programme is based in the Faculty of Health, Education and Society with input from Plymouth Business School. The programme offers a range of awards. You can choose to undertake a single module as part of your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or you can work towards a range of aggregating awards – Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters of Science. There are four core modules (the enquiring leader, developing self and others, contemporary issues in leadership and leadership in action) within the programme, research methods; preparation and planning and the dissertation are core modules for those wishing to complete to masters level. There are a number of optional modules, these will become available where there is demand.
The programme has been specifically developed to attract those who find themselves in leadership roles within the professional caring sector; health education, social care and the third sector. Reflecting the increasingly interdisciplinary world of working in these sectors; creating a space for interprofessional dialogue is a key feature of this programme.
- Creation of a shared collaborative interprofessional learning space - Use of blended learning, which uses short learning blocks and distance learning technology to support students - Range of modules that can be undertaken as stand alone CPD modules or combined to fulfil an exit pathway award - Collaboration with Plymouth Business School in delivery of three core modules
- To enable learners to become effective and entrepreneurial leaders, who are flexible and adaptable to work across multiple agencies and boundaries. - To produce autonomous leaders who have highly developed problem-solving skills and able to lead in project management and decision-making. - To encourage reflective leadership with enhanced interpersonal skills and the ability to coach and mentor others. - To equip leaders with advanced evaluative and research skills able to utilise, challenge and produce knowledge within their leadership roles.
Please note that this programme does not lead to a registered professional qualification.
Applicants will normally have a first degree or European first cycle equivalent. People without a first degree but with appropriate experience related to leadership are strongly encouraged to apply. We value the learning that you bring from your experiences. As the programme encourages learners to draw on their experiences of leadership, it is expected that applicants will have recent and significant leadership experience. However, this is not an excluding factor and applicants without this experience may be eligible to apply. Those with credits from prior learning may be able to gain Accreditation for Prior Experience and Learning.
