Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (MSc/PgDip)


Course Description

The Specialist Community Public Health Nursing programme at the School of Healthcare Sciences is designed to prepare nurses and midwives to become Specialist Community Public Health Nurses.

The programme will lead to the professional award of Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (health visitor), with subsequent registration on the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register.

Only by completing the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) programme will practitioners be eligible to have their names recorded on the third part of the NMC register.

Special Features

• Enables registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, annotated as either health visitor on the third part of the Professional Register
• Students will spend 50% of the programme on placement (this placement may not be in their local area and students will be expected to travel)
• Funding available via the Welsh Assembly Government for students undertaking the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) programme; candidates must work for the NHS in Wales to receive funding

Eligible programmes include taught full-time and part-time taught programmes leading to a master's. Not included are our distance learning programmes and taught programmes leading to a postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, as well as research master's such as the MPhil and MRes.‘Home’ and ‘EU’ students only (as classified for fee paying purposes, tuition fee status is determined after submitting an application to study) who are accepted on to an eligible postgraduate taught programme leading to a master's degree, and with a firm focus on academic excellence.For applicants from countries outside the European Union, we also offer a range of highly prestigious international scholarships.

Application Procedure

We have two deadlines after which scholarship decisions will be made:6 April and 27 July 2016.The Masters Excellence Scholarship application form can be accessed once you have submitted an application to study to an eligible postgraduate taught programme leading to a master’s degree.
