Human Resource Management (MSc)

Course Description

The programme is both academically challenging, with input from world-leading academics, and practically focused, giving you the opportunity to develop the confidence, knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in Human Resource Management.

As well as learning from the cutting-edge research of our faculty members, you will work towards a professional qualification, Graduate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a qualification required by most employers for UK Human Resource Management positions. The Programme is taught from September to June and gives students a thorough grounding in all aspects of Human Resource Management.

Students take four modules in:
• Work and Organisation
• Managing Human Resources
• Employment Relations
• Research Methods

The dissertation phase takes place from June to September and allows students to develop their ability to think critically. The Management Research Report (part of the Dissertation) gives students the opportunity to create a real-life management report, outlining practical recommendations arising from the investigation of a HRM issue.

I chose Cardiff University because it is one of the leading schools in the United Kingdom and it has a high ranking and good reputation in China. Longer term, I want to become a marketing or branding manager in the fashion industry. For this reason I took two postgraduate programmes at Cardiff and I firmly believe they will help me to fulfil my career ambitions.

Sharifah Adlina Syed Abdullah (MSc International Economics, Banking and Finance)

"I have very much enjoyed my course and the facilities (computers, libraries and lecture theatres) in Cardiff Business School are excellent. I have also found the city of Cardiff to be very friendly. The university and the city centre are very close to each other and, to help you feel at home, there is also a range of different foods available, including Asian, Continental, Caribbean and Western. During my time here, I have found a good balance between studying and doing social activities with my two children, husband and friends."
