MSc in Modern Japanese Studies


Course Description

Students take four courses: an introduction to research methods, either three courses about Japan (politics, economics, history, sociology, law, literature, linguistics) or, two courses about Japan and an intensive language course. There is also a 10,000 word dissertation. Assessment is by coursework and written examinations taken at the end of the programme in June. The programme aims to develop students’ proficiency in Japanese, give them a sound knowledge of research methods, and obtain a good knowledge of contemporary Japanese society and culture such that they could embark on a research degree.

2.1 preferably humanities or social science, Japanese to JFPT level 3
