Risk Management Masters (MSc)

Course Description

This degree builds on the School's long-standing reputation as the leading centre for the study of insurance in the UK.

The MSc in Risk Managment focuses on the problems that risk poses for corporations. It is particuarly appropriate for anyone interested in a career in risk, insurance, or general management.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Natalie Meech decided that she would like to specialise in risk management.

"Having completed some risk modules in my Industrial Economics degree, I decided that I wanted to specialise in risk management. Through the Masters I was exposed to real-world case studies that provided a good grounding for dealing with clients in my current job as a Corporate Tax Associate with Deloitte & Touche in Nottingham.

The Dissertation gave me the experience in managing a big project, and the structure of the masters means that you have to be very disciplined in managing a variety of tasks. These are useful skills in the workplace. I enjoyed my time at Nottingham and the MSc Risk Management has been of benefit to my role with Deloitte.

Davide Preziosi

780.jpg My background in Finance, an internship in the financial sector at the height of the crisis along with the increasing importance placed by regulators on risk management were all factors that guided my choice to pursue in-depth studies in this fascinating area.

Among the few Universities offering this course, Nottingham was the only one providing a sound balance between qualitative and quantitative modules, which I believe is an asset for anybody wishing to pursue a career in risk from a wider perspective.

I also very much appreciated the numerous seminars arranged by the Centre for Risk and Insurance (CRIS) throughout the course which turned out to be a valid alternative to traditional classroom teaching.

Last but not least I was truly impressed by the number of initiatives carried out by the Postgraduate Careers Service team, who have always been very helpful in providing me with valuable advice, which eventually led me to obtaining an internship with the Advisory Group in Zurich.
