Tomorrow’s professionals are expected to be efficient and innovative practitioners, partners and leaders. Based on the NHS Healthcare Leadership Model’s nine dimensions of leadership behaviours, this programme gives those leaders, and aspiring leaders, the practical skills, knowledge and behaviours to work confidently in developing safe, high-quality clinical care and support services. The programme provides you with critical appraisals of current policy, up-to-date ideas, case studies and innovative practice. Central to the work-based learning approach is the direct application of learning to your practice and the focus of live assessments on live projects and a personal development plan. Selected course modules are facilitated by Alternative Strategies (UK) Ltd. – a partner organisation of the University of Northampton
Students cover the nine dimensions of leadership behaviour through a series of work-based modules, which explore areas of personal and service development, using useful frameworks, tools and techniques. They explore issues related to involving key stakeholders, working with teams and managing organisational dynamics to ensure successful personal development and service improvement.

Methods of Learning
A range of facilitative teaching methods are included, such as learning support material, activity-based workshops, webinars and video recorded presentations.

Assessments focus on direct application of learning to your practice and reflection on live projects. Through a series of different formats (essays, presentations, reports, portfolios and reflective papers) students show evidence of their personal leadership journey.

We regard support for our students as a crucial ingredient of this programme. Ongoing professional support during your learning experience is provided through close contact with your personal tutor, who will meet with you a minimum of twice per module.
The University of Northampton
are working in partnership with Alternative Strategies (UK) Ltd, provider of Leadership, Organisational Development and Clinical Training Courses, based in Corby, Northamptonshire. Altstrat is the UK’s only independent provider of University-accredited Healthcare Leadership Training and Consultancy. Together the University of Northampton
and Altstrat offer joint delivery in the MSc/Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership for Health & Social Care.
This course allows for progression as team and service leaders and beyond, as well as teaching the practical skills, knowledge and behaviours needed to work confidently in developing high-quality clinical care and support services. Alumni now hold a range of posts from Board Directors to Ward Managers, citing this programme as being vital to their career progression.
Usually requires a first degree but students may be able to access the programme under special admissions subject to evidence of recent study at the appropriate level and relevant professional experience.
