Tell us about the MSc Molecular Medicine – why did you choose this course?

The MSc Molecular Medicine exposed me to very interesting topics like stem cell biology, molecular oncology or immunology and their use in the medical field. The lectures really addressed how these fields are used in disease diagnostics, prognostics and treatments from a molecular perspective. Additionally, I had the opportunity to participate in a research project guided by scientists and clinicians in the field. This contributed greatly to both my theoretical knowledge and practical experience. This course was ideal for my professional interests.

Did you receive a scholarship to study here?

Yes, from the Mexican government. Because the University of Leeds is a Russel Group university, it has several funding opportunities in partnership with international institutions and governments.

What was the best part about the MSc Molecular Medicine?

To engage in a full research project with students, staff and group leaders from all around the world and from different backgrounds. They provided a diversity of stimulating ideas for my research project and professional career. The experience I had during the MSc was outstanding.

What are you doing now?

Right now I’m studying my PhD in oncogene-independent resistance in Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia here at the University of Leeds. My supervisor was my lecturer during the masters and that’s how I got to meet him and got to know the project.

Would you recommend the MSc Molecular Medicine?

I entirely recommend the course to anyone who wants to learn about the molecular basis of diseases. The course is also very effective at enhancing your communication, writing, teamwork and time management skills. All of these are particularly important to successfully complete the research project and write up and present results at the end. Those skills are also transferable skills that will be looked for in industry. Definitively this masters will be a great asset for your career development.
