This course offers a sophisticated overview of History and Philosophy of Science. It aims to prepare you for advanced research in HPS, with special emphasis on developing skills of analysis, interpretation and expression.
The content of the course combines history of science with philosophy of science, while permitting you to specialise in either of these disciplines.
This 180-credit course comprises taught modules (30 credits each), and a 12,000-18,000-word research dissertation (60 or 90 credits). There are two compulsory modules and a large range of optional modules covering philosophy of physics, philosophy of biology, epistemology and metaphysics of science, science and religion, history of medicine, science communication, and more.
Tuition consists largely of small-group seminars, sometimes combined with lectures.
