Our MA in Medieval Studies enables you to develop a European and interdisciplinary perspective on the Middle Ages; to acquire reading knowledge of one of the international languages of medieval Europe (Latin, Greek or Hebrew); and to acquire the technical, palaeographical and bibliographical skills necessary to produce high-level research. You will also write a dissertation on a topic of your own choice, supervised by a subject specialist.
You will also choose from a range of interdisciplinary option modules including: • representing women in Medieval literature • monasticism in the early Medieval West • the Medieval tournament • Vikings, Saxons and heroic culture • warfare in the Age of the Crusades
Options on Medieval topics are also available through the Schools of History, English, Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies.
The Institute for Medieval Studies runs the annual International Medieval Congress - Europe’s largest gathering of medievalists.
The University of Leeds library houses important collections of medieval manuscripts and rare books.
