This MA offers you the chance to take a closer look at the theories that inform the analysis of literature and culture. You will explore the interdisciplinary field of critical and cultural theory not simply as a series of approaches to literary texts but as an ongoing critique of the world in which we live. You will discover how literature and other art forms are responsible for shaping how we see this world, for defining what the philosopher Jacques Rancière describes as the ‘distribution of the sensible.’ At a moment when life is being measured and regulated according to an ever more naturalised set of economic values, your MA will provide you with a way to mobilise your literary training as part of the larger project of the critical humanities.
You will be taught by weekly seminars, in addition to the Researching English Studies module and a dissertation. Please consult our website for details of modules currently on offer.
