MA English Literature

Course Description

The MA in English Literature is one of the country’s longest-established and most popular MA programmes of its kind. With its flexible choice of modules across the discipline of English studies, it enables you to consolidate your undergraduate work and to extend the interests developed in your first degree, and is an excellent means to prepare for further research.

This materially and intellectually rich and varied course, which includes training in research methods, taught modules, and supervised dissertation work, provides you with specialist knowledge of your choice (from medieval to contemporary) and helps you to develop a sophisticated conceptual understanding of the discipline and the current debates it generates. You will gain expertise in literary and cultural analysis, and knowledge of key literary, historical and theoretical issues in English literary studies, and acquire the skills necessary to forge a dissertation topic and to produce independent and original research. The course fosters your continuing professional development through your love of literature.
