This programme for experienced language professionals will give you an understanding of the teaching and learning of English in specifically academic contexts.
Taught by leading researchers and practitioners, you will learn more about how people learn languages and the different teaching strategies that have been developed to teach them. Then you will apply this knowledge to your study of different approaches to the teaching and assessment of EAP and the use of corpora in the classroom.
You will explore the background, theories, practices and research surrounding academic and professional English and apply them to professional contexts, whether in the classroom, course design and evaluation or other situations. As a result, the programme suits people such as teachers, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, inspectors, lecturers, materials writers and others who have already had some involvement with teaching and learning specialist English.
I browsed many UK universities and I found this course very fascinating and appropriate to my area of research interest. I also applied four UK universities but I was receiving prompt responses from this university. What makes me passionate about this area of study is that it has broadened my knowledge and critical thinking.
I have enjoyed all the modules taught, but I have really enjoyed Teaching English for Academic and Professional Purposes; and Corpora in Teaching English for Specific Purposes most because they are new areas of research interest in my country.
The learning facilities here are very fascinating and I was so excited with them. The student support service has been very helpful and staff have provided prompt information and support.
I would recommend prospective applicant to study this course in this University because the academic tutors have international reputations and apply different teaching approaches and methods. They always give constructive written feedback, as well regular meetings with for our academic and personal development.
