Through the MSc Applied Health Research you will gain an advanced understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods in a global healthcare context; a critical and indepth knowledge about the theories and application of health economics; a practical understanding of the principals and practices of conducting health research and a critical understanding of the concepts, theories and empirical application of epidemiology. You will also develop an appreciation of how good research practice, governance, ethics and disemination can be effective in the health sector.

The programme is delivered by the renowned Centre for Health Services Studiesm (CHSS) at the University of Kent
. CHSS was established in 1989, replacing the Health Services Research Unity and over the past 25 years has produced high-quality research for the health sector. The Centre's research spans a wide range of providers and initiatives from public health and policy development to collaborations on global issues such as heart disease, adolescent alcohol use and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act.
CHSS is part of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research which is recognised worldwide for its research quality and was ranked 2nd for research power in the UK by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF). The School was also placed 3rd for research intensity, 5th for research impact and 5th for research quality (GPA).

Applicants should have a first degree, attaining a 2.1 or equivalent in a social science discipline and must satisfy the School’s minimum English language requirements of IELTS 7.0 (with a minimum of 6.5 in each component), from a qualification taken within the last two years.
