The overall aim of the course is to educate individuals as managers and improve the quality of management as a profession within healthcare settings. The course provides an integrated and critical understanding of management and organisations and to help prepare you for effective management roles within a healthcare environment. There are four main objectives:
• The advanced study of leadership and management of organisations and the changing external context in which healthcare organisations operate.
• Preparation for and/or development of a career in healthcare management by developing skills at a professional or equivalent level. [
• Development of the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively to improve business and management practice.
• Enhancement of lifelong learning and personal development so far as to be able to work with self-direction and originality and to contribute to healthcare management and society at large.
A honours degree, or equivalent, ie a professional qualification, from a British or overseas institution and have a minimum of 3 years appropriate management or business experience, working in a health or social care context. Applicants with significant management experience may be admitted to the course without a degree or equivalent qualifications if they can demonstrate the potential to meet the learning requirement of the programme. Eligibility will be determined by interview with the admissions tutor where demonstration of managerial experience, continuing professional development and the ability to contribute to and benefit from the course will be required.
