Course Description

About the course

The MSc Dietetics (Advanced Practice) is designed to meet the needs of dietitians who want to advance their knowledge in dietetics through a postgraduate degree. It builds on your current knowledge and expertise and provides opportunities for you to critically challenge and evaluate your professional practice.

The course enables you to explore the evidence base for practice and undertake research that will contribute to the continued development of the dietetic profession as well as for your individual career. It includes a significant level of work-based learning giving you the opportunity to enhance your specialist professional skills, facilitate independent learning and adopt a reflective and practical approach to practice.

In addition the MSc Dietetics (Advanced Practice) course offers you the opportunity to share ideas with other health professions in order to develop intellectual abilities and assist in the advancement of health care.

At the end of this course you will have enhanced your professional practice and expertise and have benefited from the interprofessional skills and learning that the different modules on this course offers you.

Course structure

The MSc Dietetics course is modular in structure. If you wish to collect credits towards and award or a qualification see below the award and credit requirements:
- Postgraduate certificate - 60 credits
- Postgraduate diploma - 120 credits
- Masters degree - 180 credits

To complete a Masters degree award for this course you need to collect the following credits:
- Research modules - 60 credits
- Dietetics modules - minimum 30 credits
- Optional interprofessional modules - maximum 90 credits

Teaching methods

Modules are facilitated by a variety of experienced lecturers from the University as well as external lecturers.

Delivery of modules incorporates blended learning which aims to combine e-learning activities with campus based learning. You need to have access to a suitable personal computer and a good reliable Internet connection (broadband recommended). Most modern PCs or Macs (less than 3 years old) should be suitable. If you have any queries or need any additional support with IT skills, the School employs an e-learning technologist who will be pleased to help and advise you. Modules are assessed by a variety of methods for example essays, presentations, reports, posters and practical examinations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will normally have completed a relevant university degree and have a recognised qualification in dietetics. You will normally have at least one year's post-qualification experience (post internship) and evidence of appropriate continuing professional development. You must also satisfy the University's English language requirement for this programme, IELTS at Level 7.0 (including 7.0 in the writing component).

Course Fees

UK/EU students: £480 for each 15-credit module; International Students: Full time £12,000
