This programme provides technology-based graduates with the opportunity to develop an area of technological expertise through a major research project. It also gives students understanding and skills in the methodology of research and the experience of a critical investigation of an approved topic at a high level.
Taught courses are chosen from the School's broad portfolio and should be appropriate to the student's project area. The student must undertake a research methodology course as the basis for the project. The project itself is one of the student's free choices, within the constraints imposed by his or her education, training and experience. It is designed to be very practical, to provide more time than is traditionally allowed for such a project and to emphasise the work-based aspects of the subject matter.
Project proposals must be prepared and agreed by the programme leader before applicants are accepted on to the programme.
There are also MPhil/PhD opportunities.

Students are assessed through examinations, coursework and a project.
This MSc provides the student with significant skills from undertaking a substantial independent piece of research. It enables successful graduates to extend their research skills at a higher level in industry or academia.
