MSc Accounting and Management

Course Description

The University of Essex is one of the UK's leading academic institutions, ranked ninth nationally for research excellence following the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE, December 2008).

Essex Business School was ranked second in the UK for the accounting and finance subject area in the last RAE. Our teaching and research is informed by a broad range of social science theories and concepts that are applied to some of the pressing issues facing business, public sector and voluntary organisations.

This course will broaden and deepen your thinking about accounting and management. You develop a broader understanding of the changing roles and perception of management and accounting within the context of shifting societal values, competing cultural influences and ideological demands, dwindling natural resources, globalised competition and the increasingly widespread impact of information technology.

Our MSc Accounting and Management offers you a broad educational programme that prepares you to face the challenges of managing and working in a variety of organisations both within Europe and internationally.

This course has ESRC Doctoral Training Centre accreditation, meaning it can form part of a 1+3 funding opportunity worth up to £18,000 for talented postgraduates. The University is one of only 21 ESRC-accredited Doctoral Training Centres in the UK.

(Student Profile)

Odusola Abimbola Philips

“I chose to study within the Essex Business School at the University of Essex because of its excellent rating as a top ten university for research. I really enjoy the depth of up-to-date research I am able to engage in, and it is great to get the opportunity to solve real case studies with our lecturers and other students on the course.

What I have enjoyed most about being at Essex is being part of the diverse community at the Colchester Campus. I have had the opportunity to make friends with people from so many different cultures and backgrounds. It has really helped me learn about other people’s attitudes and beliefs and I am sure that the friends I have made will stay my friends for life.

The school itself is very friendly and the lecturers are easy to talk to which has made my time here so enjoyable. The University also provides everything you could need on campus, from shops to the library, and places to hang out with friends.

When I leave Essex, my ultimate aim is to start a consulting firm for creative industries in Nigeria. I have gained so much knowledge from my time studying here and I really believe that this knowledge will be invaluable to the firms in creative industries back home.”
