The University of Essex is one of the UK's leading academic institutions, ranked ninth nationally for research excellence following the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE, December 2008).
Essex Business School was ranked second in the UK for the accounting and finance subject area in the last RAE. Our teaching and research is informed by a broad range of social science theories and concepts that are applied to some of the pressing issues facing business, public sector and voluntary organisations.
We have designed an MBA programme for a new breed of business leader; one who needs to be innovative, inquisitive, creative, and ethical.
An MBA is not just about the course or qualification; it is about your future. Whether your goal is to become an executive or an entrepreneur, the right MBA will accelerate your career. It must not only provide general business knowledge but knowledge which is current and tackles the big issues facing organisations today, and those they will encounter tomorrow. Our MBA provides you with such knowledge and equips you with the skill set to apply this newly acquired knowledge in the workplace. We have limited the numbers on each cohort to ensure you have the individual attention you deserve to maximise the value of your investment in the course.
We connect you to the latest developments in business practice by bringing senior executives from leading companies in to talk about contemporary business issues and to teach, particularly our innovative 'Ensuring Employability' series of weekly workshops.
In addition to fostering links with experienced business practitioners, our MBA has significant links with major institutions in the City of London, leading public sector institutions and non-governmental organisations, the latter through our successful community advice project.

“I chose to study within the Essex Business School at the University of Essex because of its excellent rating as a top ten university for research. I really enjoy the depth of up-to-date research I am able to engage in, and it is great to get the opportunity to solve real case studies with our lecturers and other students on the course.
What I have enjoyed most about being at Essex is being part of the diverse community at the Colchester Campus. I have had the opportunity to make friends with people from so many different cultures and backgrounds. It has really helped me learn about other people’s attitudes and beliefs and I am sure that the friends I have made will stay my friends for life.
The school itself is very friendly and the lecturers are easy to talk to which has made my time here so enjoyable. The University also provides everything you could need on campus, from shops to the library, and places to hang out with friends.
When I leave Essex, my ultimate aim is to start a consulting firm for creative industries in Nigeria. I have gained so much knowledge from my time studying here and I really believe that this knowledge will be invaluable to the firms in creative industries back home.”
