Davina McLelland

2333.jpg The MSc in Oil and Gas Chemistry appealed to me as the programme offered a variety of courses that covered many different chemical applications in the industry.

The smaller class sizes offered in the MSc Oil and Gas Chemistry program created an interactive learning environment that made classes effective and enjoyable. In addition, the industrial experience of professors gave good insight into the materials being taught in class.

The broad variety of courses offered in the MSc Oil and Gas Chemistry programme opened up many more opportunities in the energy sector than I had before. In addition, insight into the industry provided by professors, guest lecturers and an industrial placement during the research portion of my degree, helped me determine in what area of the oil and gas industry I wanted to start my career.

Since leaving the University of Aberdeen, I returned to Canada and pursued a career in the energy sector in Calgary. I have applied the skills and knowledge I developed from the MSc Oil and Gas Chemistry programme working in laboratory and engineering groups at oil and gas service companies.

The University of Aberdeen’s strong ties to the oil and gas industry in the UK creates an engaging environment that allows students to get a feel for a broad range of topics in the energy sector.
