Professional Learning and Development (Primary)


Course Description

THIS IS AVAILABLE AS AN E-LEARNING PROGRAMME

Aims:
The aims of the programme are to enhance and extend the skills, knowledge and understanding of the participants in the following ways:

- Develop advanced knowledge and understanding of educational issues and theories relevant to teaching in primary classrooms

- Develop the capacity to analyse critically the evidence and arguments to support professional judgements in complex and ambiguous situations

- Make an informed contribution to current educational debates and discussions

- Apply advanced knowledge and understanding of a range of theoretical perspectives and approaches to enhance personal
professional practice in primary settings

- Develop the capacity to shape and lead change in a variety of policy and and practice settings

- Exploit opportunities to use research to generate professional knowledge and enhance policy and practice

Syllabus:
The programme is comprised of two courses contributing to a total of 60 credit points at SCQF Level 11 (PG5).

Course 1: Preparing Learning and Teaching in Primary Schools (30 Credits) Course 2: Developing for Learning and Teaching in Primary Schools (30 Credits)

Assessment:
Formative assessments is a feature of all courses. Formative and summative assessments are designed to arise naturally from the work. Assignments focus directly on workplace applications.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be fully qualified teachers registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and suitably experienced in secondary education. They should have completed a period of observationacross the stage and curriculum of primary environment.The English Language Requirement for all College of Arts and Social Sciences Masters programmes is an IELTS of 6.5 with 6.0 in the writing and reading (or equivalent TOEFL iBT or PTE).
