This programme provides advanced training in social research. It equips students with the skills they need to undertake independent research, using a range of methodologies, and through the dissertation, students are able to develop practical, intellectual and critical skills in their specific areas of interest. For students who wish to undertake a PhD in Sociology, the programme is also designed to provide the support and training required to complete the first stages of doctoral research.
The MRes programme includes courses in: Advanced Social Theory (30 credit points); Qualitative Sociological Research (30 credit points); Approaches to Analysis (15 credit points); Research Seminar (15 credit points); Quantitative Sociological Research (30 credit points), and; Dissertation in Social Research (60 credit points).
This programme is supported by the Postgraduate Students' Allowance Scheme (PSAS). UK and EU Students may be eligible for tuition fee support.

An upper second class honours degree in Sociology or a cognate discipline, or equivalent professional experience. The University's English language requirements apply.
