This MSc is aimed at graduates and other professionals, both in government and industry, who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of the energy industry and general international economic impacts. The position of this programme at the Centre provides the student a unique opportunity to combine studies in general energy management with international Economic policy with specialized courses in the energy and resources industries. Throughout its history, the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy as part of the Graduate School of Natural Resources Law, Policy and Management at the University of Dundee has achieved continuous growth and has established international pre-eminence in its core activities. How you will be taught

The MSc is made up of compulsory and elective modules with this taught component being followed by either:

A dissertation of up to 15,000 words on a topic approved by an academic supervisor

An Internship report - students who choose this option are required to source an organisation willing to offer a 3-month work placement, approved by an academic supervisor

An extended PhD Proposal - students who propose to follow up the LLM with a PhD may, with the approval of an academic supervisor, submit a 10,000 word PhD proposal

PhD Research Scholarships - 5 Awards

Since 2007 CEPMLP has offered one or more research scholarships to support candidates reading for the degree of PhD. The scholarships are available for three years (subject to performance) and will cover fees and provide a stipend of £9,000 per annum (£750 per month) towards living expenses.

Successful candidates will have access to all the resources of the PhD programme, including limited support for travel. Applications will be welcome in any area of current research interest to the Centre (see CEPMLP's Research section of the website for further information on current research topics)

Application Procedure

Applicants should complete an application form for admission as a research student to the University of Dundee indicating on the form that they are applying to CEPMLP as their academic department and indicating on the finance section of the form that they are applying for a CEPMLP scholarship. They should also include a 5-10 page summary of their research proposal, covering the research question, relevance, methodology to be applied and originality. Applications must be received by 30th April 2011 and a decision will be made by 1st June 2011 with the successful candidate(s) expected to take up the scholarship from September 2011. http://www.dundee.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/how_to_apply/index.htm

Entry Requirements

You should have a good 4-year degree, equivalent to a UK honours degree, preferably at upper 2nd class level or above. Candidates holding the equivalent of a good 2nd class lower degree may also apply. You must provide degree certificates and academic transcripts with your application. Preferred degree disciplines are Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum or Mining Engineering, Finance. Work experience in the energy/natural resources industry is an advantage, though it is not a strict requirement for admission to the MSc.English Language Requirement: IELTS of 6.5 (or equivalent), if your first language is not English.
