• You'll develop your knowledge and gain excellent teaching skills across many contexts from higher education to clinical practice, so you can have the skills you'll need to enhance your career.

About the course:

If you're keen to develop your skills and knowledge in education within your practice setting then this course will help you to be at the forefront of professional practice education. Your current workplace will be the focus of your learning, so before you can study this course, you'll need to be able to facilitate learning in your practice environment and have the full support from your employer.

You'll experience a variety of teaching methods including a mixture of traditional learning and learning using web based and electronic tools. You'll also take part in group work and reflective practice, which means you'll consider how you have developed and applied your knowledge. You'll be assessed by your peers and the group, as well as through the reflective portfolios that you develop during the course. This will allow you to improve your practice by applying what you have learnt to your own practice.

If you study all modules on this course, then you'll meet the requirements for Nurse Teacher Status (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2008), but if you study just the first two modules then you'll gain Practice Teacher Status. Practice Teacher Status is a requirement for health visitor and school nurse mentors. It's advisable for a range of other health professional practice learning related roles, such as clinical facilitator, practice educator and skills trainer.
